"Momentum" Magazine Cover Photo!

Great news coming out of this weekend! We (Team Winco, formerly Team Allstate) have an exciting opportunity to be on the cover of the Summer 2013 issue of Momentum magazine, the award-winning magazine of the National MS Society, and the largest MS-related publication in the world...

The Summer issue will feature an article on how to train for Bike MS, and a couple of Boise riders were interviewed for the article - including me and my friend Gordy Myre. I believe the magazine will feature a couple of existing photos for the table of contents and in-line in the article - including one from Bike MS Idaho 2012 (featuring the beautiful "Team Allstate" jersey!) and one that my good friend, Jan van Dijk, took in Europe last Fall during our summit of Col du Sarenne.

I was disappointed that a team photo was not selected for the interior of the magazine, but the reason is that all of our team photos were from an event - and the article is focused on training. We (the team) never stop to take pictures while we're training, unless it's a picture of the bikes in interesting places - which for me, is usually a taco truck in some small Idaho town like Melba or Emmett...

Since the magazine wanted a training photo for the cover, they asked if we would be willing to do a photo shoot in Boise! Which we did on Saturday, March 23rd. The entire team from last year's Bike MS event was able to participate except for Eric, who was sorely missed. Josh Roper, a local photographer here in Boise, was selected to take the pictures. We met at Ivywild Park, and rode out to the Lucky Peak boat launch, up and over the dam - stopping to grab a few pictures along the way. The photos were of the team riding, and doing the sorts of things we do on typical training rides - checking tire pressure, working on our bikes, hydrating, taking breaks, etc. Josh captured everything except the post-ride beers...

Megan Nettleton from the Boise MS Society office stopped by to grab some photos of Josh taking photos...here are some "highlights"...

Me, sucking in my gut and staring at a light pole in Ivywild Park...and feeling pretty silly doing it.

Taking turns hydrating for the camera - That's some nice hydrating, Doug!

Climbing up Highway 21 to the Lucky Peak Dam - Steve's doing a great job pulling us up the hill.

Fueling up for the camera - since they were "gummi" snacks, we all had pretty dumb looks on our faces trying to chew them!
It was a fun afternoon, good to get out riding with the guys. I sure hope they got something they can use for the cover. You may have noticed that I bought out Rick's bike for the photo shoot, and the old Schwinn did a great job as always. It would be a very cool thing for our family if Rick's bike made the magazine cover! The magazine should come out in June - hopefully before the Bike MS ride at the end of that month. The online edition will be available here - I'll also blog, tweet, and facebook when it's available...

And lastly, by special request from Juliann Fritz, with the NMSS office in Salt Lake City, here's some Blue Steel!
